Acoustical Modeling & Attenuation Options

Dustin Meredith, P.E.

Chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee 2.6 – Sound & Vibration Control

You can avoid most, if not all, HVAC noise problems… but it requires knowledge and effort. In this brief introduction to acoustical modeling, we will discuss modeling fundamentals and attenuation options for various HVAC systems. We will outline the four critical steps needed to attain an acoustically acceptable space and the impacts various value engineering and construction phase decisions may have on the acoustical target.
